Geochemical Speciation, Risk Assessment, and Sources Identification of Heavy Metals in Mangrove Surface Sediments from the Nanliu River Estuary of the Beibu Gulf, China

To better understand heavy metal pollution and the potential ecological risk of mangrove sediments in Nanliu River estuary, speciation distribution characteristics metals Fe, Mn, Zn, Co, Ni, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb 13 surface study area were determined analyzed using a modified four-step BCR extraction method, was assessed Geo-accumulation Index (Igeo), Potential Ecological Risk (RI), Assessment Code (RAC), Pollution Load (PLI), Individual contamination factors (ICF) Global factor (GCF) methods, source analyses performed correlation analysis cluster analysis. The results showed that order Fe > Mn Cu Zn Cr Co Ni Cd. Except for Pb, average content all exceeded environmental background value; Pd are mainly residual speciation, while Cd weak acid oxidation, respectively, both which predominantly unstable easily released into environment. pose substantial risk, present moderate require precaution. indicate most likely to originate from natural sources transportation industry, be ship manufacturing industrial activities, is agriculture aquaculture. GCF PLI show places with high enrichment primarily located areas industrial, agricultural, or human activity impacts.
